NMMS – National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme

Target group:Meritorious students from economically weaker sections studying in Class 8

Objective

To reduce dropout rate after Class 8 and encourage students to continue education at secondary level (Class 9 to 12), especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Who Can Apply for NMMS?

✅ Students Currently Studying in Class 8.
➡️ They are the ones eligible to appear in the NMMS exam and fill out the form.

What Happens After Class 8?

Once a Class 8 student:
1.Fills the NMMS form (online or through school)
Appears in the NMMS exam (usually in Nov–Dec)
If selected, they will:

Receive Scholarship From Class 9 Onward

₹1,000 per month
Starting from Class 9 up to Class 12
Paid every quarter/year via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the student’s bank account

🚫 Who Cannot Apply

Students studying in private schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, or residential central schools funded by the government are not eligible.
